Software recommendations#
PC#
Proton compatibility enabled in Resonite’s properties in Steam Library#
While the game engine runs natively on Linux, the renderer runs through Proton. The current recommended Proton variant is Proton-GE. It can be installed through a Proton helper, such as ProtonUp-QT. It also solves the issue with rendering Resonite’s logo on startup.
🛑 CautionProton 11, Experimental, or any 11-based Protons will not launch Resonite. For more information, see the Proton GitHub issue for Resonite.
Clipboard functionality#
- Since
2025.12.11.1385, most Wayland desktops should have proper clipboard functionality. - Just note that due to the architecture of Wayland, Resonite will not receive clipboard updates until the window is refocused.
- If you’re on X11 or GNOME Wayland, trying to use the clipboard may do nothing or crash the game.
- Until PR!3 on
resonite-clipboard-rsis merged, you can download this pre-built version of the clipboard library, which will fix GNOME Wayland and X11. Follow the installation instructions within.- Hint: Assuming Resonite is installed to the main Steam library folder, replace the file at this location:
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Resonite/runtimes/linux-x64/native/libresonite_clipboard_rs.so

VR#
-
All of the above.
-
If your VR device works with Monado or WiVRn:
- WiVRn for standalone headsets, or Envision for other headsets.
- Distro-pacakged (non-Flatpak) WiVRn, especially from AUR, requires relogging (or restarting) after installation.
- xrizer instead of SteamVR.
- It’s bundled only with Flatpak WiVRn.
- You still need SteamVR with the Lighthouse driver if you use base stations.
- OpenComposite is unsupported.
- (Optional) WayVR for desktop viewing.
- The Desktop tab in Resonite’s dashboard doesn’t work on Linux.
- WiVRn for standalone headsets, or Envision for other headsets.
-
If you have graphical or audio issues with the software provided above and you’ve run out of solutions, you may consider using SteamLink or ALVR. See this page on the Resonite Wiki for more info.
⚠️ WarningUsing SteamVR isn’t recommended due to general unreliability. More info is available on our SteamVR page.
Common issues#
-
Resonite doesn’t launch after a crash:
When in doubt, log out your user account (and log back in). If that didn’t help, have you tried turning it off and on again? (Reboot your PC)
-
Resonite crashes when launched in VR mode:
Double-check if WiVRn/Envision is set to use xrizer, not OpenComposite. More details in our Resonite crashing article.
-
Resonite doesn’t launch at all because of Proton (desktop mode and VR):
Open Steam Library → Right-click Resonite → Properties → Compatibility → Check Force (…) and choose a (different) Proton variant. Resonite will not launch on Proton 11 or Experimental due to missing dependencies; see the PC recommendations.
💡 Tip
You need to restart Steam after installing an unofficial Proton variant.
-
Problems with SteamVR or ALVR:
SteamVR is known to be more unstable than Monado, while ALVR generally works worse than WiVRn. See this page on the Resonite Wiki for more info.
-
Resonite launches in desktop mode instead of VR:
Some WiVRn packages (such as Flatpak) require you to copy env vars from WiVRn’s dashboard to Resonite’s Steam launch options. You need to relog your user account after installing WiVRn to see them.
-
Incorrect launch arguments format.
Resonite Wiki#
The Resonite Wiki is a great resource for learning more about the game in general, as well as troubleshooting some common issues that may not be specific to Linux. For Linux topics in particular (such as a list of distributions known to perform well on Resonite, or quirks about the platform’s custom URL handling), you can check the Linux notes page of this wiki.
