Spout streaming#

Spout2 is unavailable natively on Linux due to its dependence on DirectX. However, you can get the same functionality using Spout2PW which bridges the output of Spout2 as a PipeWire video stream which you can capture in software such as OBS.

Currently, the install instructions are located on the original project’s archived repo, just be sure to use the forked version linked above to have Proton 11 compatibility. (As for the OBS plugin obs-pwvideo, the original archived version should still work fine.)

As of writing this, Spout2PW currently only supports GE versions of Proton 11. The new maintainer wishes to also support vanilla Proton soon, and they are now aware of Proton-RTSP. But since we typically recommend Proton-RTSP for VRChat (which is based on vanilla Proton and not GE), you must either:

• Use an older Proton 10-based release of GE-Proton-RTSP, which has partial support for video players
• Use GE-Proton 11, which has no support for video players
